Hi. I’m Terry John Davis and I’m a retired television production specialist and musician. I spent 50 years playing in bands and 32 years in television production. I don’t clain to be an expert at anything. I’m always learning. Then again, I have been around long enough to pick up a few things in both music and TV.
I had an interest in music from an early age. My Mother enrolled me in piano lessons at 4 which I didn’t much care for so at 5 I transitioned to organ. More keys plus stops and pedals were not the answer. It wasn’t the instrument. It was the music. Rock and roll hadn’t come along yet and the stuff the teachers wanted to teach me was just not very interesting. So I stopped music lessons until grade school. Then it was the simple percussion and ocarina stuff until I went to military school. This time my Mom pursuaded me to get into the drum and bugle corp. Good work Mom ’cause by this time rock and roll had exploded and the halls of the military academy echoed with the sounds of Elvis, Chuck, Buddy, Little Richard, the Everly Brothers et. al. I would have embraced the military academy and continued there if it had been a step towards becoming a naval aviator but you don’t get to fly fighters with vision like mine so music won out and I went back to my little home town in west Texas and played drums in the Junior high band. One afternoon I heard “Topsy Pt.2” by Cozy Cole, on the radio and drums became a serious endeavor for me. I wanted to be in a band and play drums. Fate had a different idea. That story coming up.
